1. REDUCING the INCIDENCE of mental illness in Nigeria through extensive mental health education:
(i) (via MMM platform on social media(WhatsApp, YouTube, Telegram, Instagram, Facebook and Twitter);
(ii) Prints media (Newspapers/National dailies, and;
(iii) Electronic media(Television and Radio Stations).
2. MITIGATING the EFFECTS of mental illness on those who have it through:
(i) advocacy to govt and well meaning people to provide legislation and conducive environment which will reduce stigma and encourage social inclusion,
(ii) Provision of free Counselling and Psychotherapy and;
(iii) PROVISION OF FREE / RIDICULOUSLY SUBSIDIZED MEDICATIONS TO THE INDIGENT SUFFERERS”.
We urge the Federal Government of Nigeria to (as a matter of urgency) pass the mental health bill as advocated here:
We also urge the Government to discourage the massive brain drains of medical personnel by making medical practice comfortable and encouraging.The Federal Government should also increase budgetary allocation to health sector by following the WHO proposal of 15% of the country’s budget.
Mental illness is not an arrow from witches or wizards, neither is it a curse from the gods…but a medical illness of the brain same way hypertension is the illness of the heart and asthma-illness of the lungs! People suffering from mental illness should not be discriminated against, but loved and should be assisted in getting help…Stop the stigma…spread the news.
There are now private mental health facilities that people can now visit aside the existing public institutions. One of such is: GRACE COTTAGE CLINIC, (Opposite Landmark School) Ori-Okuta, off Agric B/Stop, IKORODU. (www.gracecottagehospital.org.ng; 08057886636).
Washing your hands before meal goes a long way to keep germs and diseases away from you.
It is good for you to sleep under insecticide treated mosquito net…Kill malaria before Malaria Kills you.
Self prescription is a dangerous practice!…Desist from it and consult your DOCTORS.
