OUR SERVICES
- IN-PATIENT CARE: this means when you are admitted to our hospital on a doctor’s order, you are classified as an inpatient as soon as you are formally admitted.
- OUT-PATIENT CARE: this is the care that our clients receive without being admitted or for a stay of less than 24 hours (even if this stay occurs overnight). Outpatient care also includes any health care services that are received while at our facility. Here at Grace Cottage clinic, we offer excellent in-patient and outpatient services, your health is our sole priority. Patients’ wellness is our concern; we give our patients the necessary care they deserve and we make it a home away from home.
WHAT IS ADDICTION?
- Addiction is a psychological and physical inability to stop consuming a chemical, drug, activity, or substance, even though it is causing psychological and physical harm. Someone with an addiction will continue to misuse the substance in spite of the harmful effects.
SYMPTOMS
- The primary indications of addiction are:
- uncontrollably seeking drugs
- uncontrollably engaging in harmful levels of habit-forming behavior
- neglecting or losing interest in activities that do not involve the harmful substance or behavior
- relationship difficulties, which often involve lashing out at people who identify the dependency
- an inability to stop using a drug, though it may be causing health problems or personal problems, such as issues with employment or relationships.
Rehabilitation is a process of helping our clients who are dependent on drugs to be free of addiction via detoxification and substitution methods. Psychiatric rehabilitation work is undertaken by our rehabilitation counselors, licensed professional occupational therapist and rehab consultants.
WHAT IS PSYCHOTHERAPY?
- This refers to a range of treatments that can help with mental health problems, emotional challenges, and some psychiatric disorders.
- It aims to enable patients, or clients, to understand their feelings, and what makes them feel positive, anxious, or depressed. This can equip them to cope with difficult situations in a more adaptive way.
- Often, our course of therapy lasts for 6 to 12 sessions; individuals who are eager to change and willing to put in the effort often report positive results.
- Psychotherapy can provide help with a range of problems, from depression and low self-esteem to addiction and family disputes. Anyone who is feeling overwhelmed by their problems and unable to cope may be able to benefit from psychotherapy.
- Psychotherapy is sometimes called a “talking therapy” because it uses talking, rather than medication.
Here at GRACE COTTAGE, our seasoned Clinical Psychologists and Psychiatric Nurses help our clients out through empathy and non-judgmental postures.
Counseling is a type of talking therapy or psychological therapy. It involves talking to a counselor about your problems. Counselors are trained to listen sympathetically and can help you deal with any negative thoughts and feelings. They are also skilled at helping you express your worries and concerns.
Counseling is a safe space to hear our clients think out loud about their lives, express how they are really feeling and discuss concerns and worries with our team who won’t judge them.
Elderly care services
- When it comes to taking care of the elderly ones, we ensure that they are handled with care, love, and patience. While it may be stressful at times, we also keep in mind that it is not easy for them to become dependent on us or others for their care. It is important that we become familiar with ways to provide them with the best care possible.
- At Grace Cottage, we give your elderly ones the best of care as we make the stay very conducive for them.
WHAT IS STRESS?
- Stress is the body’s reaction to any change that requires an adjustment or response
This means that we experience stress if we believe that we don’t have the time, resources, or knowledge to handle a situation. In short, we experience stress when we feel “out of control.”
- REACTIONS TO STRESS
We have two instinctive reactions that make up our stress response. These are the “fight or flight” response, and the General Adaptation Syndrome (GAS). Both of these reactions can happen at the same time.
FIGHT OR FLIGHT: this is a basic, short-term survival response, which is triggered when we experience a shock, or when we see something that we perceive as a threat.
Our brains then release stress hormones that prepare the body to either “fly” from the threat, or “fight” it. This energizes us, but it also makes us excitable, anxious, and irritable.
The problem with the fight or flight response is that, although it helps us deal with life-threatening events, we can also experience it in everyday situations – for example, when we have to work to short deadlines, when we speak in public, or when we experience conflict with others.
In these types of situations, a calm, rational, controlled, and socially-sensitive approach is often more appropriate.
At GRACE COTTAGE, we recognize the harmful effects of stress in leading to BURN OUT, hence give our clients the needed training for them to be empowered to combat stress and de-stress.
- Psychological first aid (PFA) is a technique designed to reduce the occurrence of post-traumatic stress disorder.
- It is also the mental and emotional equivalent of members of the public and professional helpers. PFA builds organizational and community resilience, and people’s capacity to respond well to traumatic events.
- It is recommended for anyone who may have a role in supporting staff, colleagues, community members
- Workplace managers and supervisors
- Health, safety and well-being teams
- Peer supporters
- Emergency management first responders
The 5 elements of PFA
- Who action framework for PFA, look, listen and link
- Understanding and recognizing distress
- Active listening and calming technique
- Wellbeing –looking after yourself
- Referral to more specialized support
At GRACE COTTAGE, we intervene promptly to any form of loss, bereavement or mishap.
Grace Cottage Clinic serves as a referral service centre. We triage, do appropriate investigations and refer patients accordingly, should they have any other co-morbid condition. Other medical specialists also come from time to time to review our patients should such need arises.
Other facility provides short term stay as a convalescent centre for our clients going through emotional stress or needing to rest for some days. Our executive room offers the luxury of home away from home. It is usually a holiday retreat for our clients.
- Our Coach-Mentors helps ensure successful outcomes for our program by supporting our clients returning home from treatment.
- The success of any treatment program is typically determined by how well clients or patients can implement new skills and strategies once they return home. After the investment of time, money and expertise, the success of the program lies in the client’s ability to follow through with aftercare recommendations.
- This refers to the methods we use to offer immediate, short-term help to individuals who experience an event that produces emotional, mental, physical, and behavioral distress or problems. A crisis can refer to any situation in which the individual perceives a sudden loss of his or her ability to use effective problem-solving and coping skills.
This is peculiar to us. We do not only stop at giving our clients regular phone calls to find out how they are faring, but go to the extent of sending our team of social workers to visit them at home. This helps a great deal in preventing incessant relapse.
We partner with ambulance and crisis intervention service providers to ease client’s transportation to our facility.
